Amalia (Amy) Zents is a professionally-trained vocalist and a music teacher of voice, piano and guitar. She also performs as an original singer-songwriter with her husband James in a musical duo, called Molly and Sonny Boy. Together they own and maintain the Zents Music Studio, LLC in New Ulm, MN.
Amy is also an FCC-licensed professional radio announcer at KNUJ radio (see http://www.knuj.net)
Amy is an accomplished soprano soloist with the New Ulm Civic Orchestra. Amy holds a college degree in Music Education K-12 from Minnesota State University Mankato, along with being trained privately by internationally-acclaimed instructor of voice, and baritone singer (now retired) Professor Warren Hettinga . Amy was also trained in choral conducting by USC alum and world-renowned choral composer/professor/choral conductor Dr. David Dickau. Amy sang with the prestigious Minnesota Chorale for 2 years at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis with the Minnesota Orchestra where she met and sang for Doc Severenson, renown music conductor David Zinman, MN Orchestra conductor Eji Oue, and America's greatest choral conductor Robert Shaw.
James Zents, M.D., her husband, is a multi-talented composer, recording engineer and versatile performer. He plays numerous instruments expertly such as the guitar, banjo, harmonica, piano is also versed in playing exotic instruments such as the Djembe, the African Talking Drum, and early renaissance instruments such as the bass recorder.
Her husband James is an Emergency Physician, with an undergraduate degree in Anthropology. He is also certified in Travel Medicine and practices emergency medicine at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, MN.
Zents Music Studio, founded in 2002, is a professional educational music teaching studio offering lessons in voice, piano, and guitar and is affiliated with the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce. The music classes are conducted by Amy Zents, teacher-performer, and adjunct instructor-performer of guitar, James Zents.
James and Amy Zents perform with the New Ulm Civic Orchestra seasonally, and year-round with their folk-blues duo, Molly and Sonny Boy.
Amy Zents is also heard throughout the world on the Internet each Sunday afternoon from 12-5pm (Central Time,) on the Sunday Polka parade streaming live from 860 KNUJ. Amy Zents is also a talented actress-singer and has performed in NUACTS (New Ulm Area Community Theater) stage productions.
Amy Zents played Thusnelda (Hermann's wife) in the historical play about the conquest of the Romans, "Hermanstraum" in 2006.
Amy was also invited to sing in the "Jane Austen Celebration" by the play's director Bobbi McCrae, thus Amy composed and sang a very dramatic song in that show she created called, "My Heart's Delight" (Lyrics and Music by Amy Zents, and arranged, accompanied by Bob Eveslage. copyright 2006)
